"Asteria II"
by Tim Adams

Webster City, IA

   Artist Statement:
According to Greek mythology, it is believed that a shooting or falling star in the sky was a gift from the Greek goddess Asteria and this sculpture is a nod to that goddess who often was depicted with a halo of stars surrounding her head.  The body of Asteria is made up of weathered and stainless steel to represent the bright reflection of shiny stars against the dark murky night sky.  Her halo is more like a bouquet of blue abstract flowers and the flowing, swirling shapes of the piece further tell the story of Asteria who is known as the goddess of dreams and astrology.
