Artist Statement:
The prairies that once covered the Midwest are “remnants of the past”. Tallgrass prairie at one time covered parts of 14 states in the Midwest with over 80% of Iowa covered in tallgrass. Today, less than 0.1% of the original tallgrass prairie remains in Iowa. This piece was created from remnants of steel to pay respect to the plants that created the rich soil of the Midwest.
