Artist Statement:
Set Sail began as a sketch when I was observing a sail boat on Five Island Lake in my hometown of Emmetsburg, IA. I am grateful for growing up on the beautiful lake, and I value all of the opportunities, resources, and recreation that lakes bring to communities.
My work tends to come from my personal experiences, surroundings, and nature. As I observed the sail boat, I could not help but think how the boat depended on an outside force in order for it to move. Set Sail represents the idea of moving forward. The work signifies the excitement of new beginnings and exploring the unknown.
